What are ASTM A179 Tubes?

These tubes are built by a seamless routine, then cold-drawn to high dimensional quality and surface finish. After the final cold pass, they are heat-treated (annealed) at about 1200 °F (≈650 °C) or higher to enrich ductility and relieve stress.

Principle & Mechanism / Approach of Working:

  • Manufacturing System: Steel billet → pierce to establish unwritten shell → hot-extrude or roll to tube → endless tube → cold-draw to right size → heat treat (anneal) → straightening, trimming, testing.
  • Mechanism in Service: In a heat-exchanger or condenser, the tube serves as a conduit for one fluid while further fluid flows out. Heat is transferred across the tube wall. An empty cold-drawn surface for the best heat-transfer efficiency, fatigue resistance under cyclic thermal loads, & practical weldability are all guaranteed by low-carbon steel (ASTM A179).
